Guidelines for Named Chairs and Professorships
Hospital – University Named Chairs / Professorships
Ten hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area are fully affiliated with the University of Toronto (U of T). A further fifteen hospitals and healthcare sites in southern Ontario are community affiliates of the U of T.
In this environment of shared knowledge and experience, over 140 endowed chairs and professorships have been established jointly by the U of T and its affiliated sites as Hospital-University Named Chairs / Professorships.
To facilitate this process, the U of T Faculty of Medicine has developed (in consultation with the leadership of its affiliated sites) Guidelines to enhance the establishment and management of the Hospital - University Named Chairs / Professorships process.
These Guidelines outline the process for initial establishment of the chair / professorship, as well as recruiting, appointing, reviewing and reappointing the holder of the chair / professorship. Holders of these chairs / professorships are most often physically based at the hospital / healthcare site that has garnered the endowed funding that allows for the establishment of the chair / professorship. The endowed funds for these chairs / professorships are managed by the relevant hospital Foundation.
