Richard Wu, MD/PhD Candidate

Richard You Wu is a MD/PhD Trainee in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. He is currently conducting his PhD research at the Hospital for Sick Children under the supervision of Dr. Philip Sherman. His research interest focuses on the intestinal epithelial responses to non-digestible oligosaccharides in both in-vitro and in-vivo models of intestinal injury. Richard is the recipient of CIHR Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (2014-2017) and a NASPGHAN Medical Student Research Fellowship (2013).

Philip Sherman, MD, FRCPC

Philip Sherman is Professor of Paediatrics, Microbiology, Nutritional Sciences & Dentistry at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto where he has been on faculty since 1984. Sherman is a Past-President of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology. He is the  recipient of a Canada Research Chair (tier 1) in Gastrointestinal Disease (2001-2022).  His research interests focus on epithelial signal transduction responses to pathogenic, commensal and probiotic bacteria. Sherman is Scientific Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes.
