Green Initiatives - MedStore

Green Committee Logo

Did you know that MedStore is a leader in the Faculty of Medicine’s Green Initiative? In fact, MedStore has been dedicated to environmentally-friendly practices for a number of years. For example, MedStore has worked with the Canadian Diabetes Association on a toner cartridge recycling program. Anyone can bring their old toner cartridges to MedStore, where they will be picked up and recycled, with all proceeds going to life-saving diabetes research.

MedStore also has a battery recycling program. Bring your old batteries downstairs and we will ensure that they are handled in a safe and environmentally-friendly way. Even some of our products are now made from 100% recycled materials, including MedStore bags and paper towels.

MedStore, in association with the Division of Teaching Laboratories, has also set up an Equipment Repair Centre. Now, instead of throwing out your broken centrifuges and hotplates, you can bring them down to MedStore for a free estimate. If we are able to repair your equipment at our bargain prices, you can save the environment and your money at the same time.

Don’t know what to do with your used Styrofoam boxes? Bring them to MedStore and we’ll re-use them, MedStore is proud of the fact that we have never purchased any Styrofoam shipping products.

Remember also that buying your supplies from a locally-situated source reduces individual deliveries to the University which, in turn, reduces truck emissions and downtown traffic. Direct pick-up of your supplies from MedStore also reduces packaging on many purchases.

MedStore is constantly thinking of ways to lessen our impact on the environment. Visit their website at: We urge you to be like MedStore – go green.
